Unless you have been bestowed the gift of perfect genetics, you need this best skin care routine for your 40s because now is the time when the products you choose to apply on your skin should be taken seriously.
You know you are in your 40s when your ever-friendly foundation-concealer combo becomes cake-y, those laugh lines are getting beyond “cute” and such. You can’t go the trail-and-error method of choosing products like the way you did in your 20s. The skin care regime in your 20s can not help you anymore.
So try these tips instead..
In addition to the cleanse-tone-moisturise routine I have mentioned in my website, the most recent being the post about the best skin care routine for your 30s, you need to add serum to the mix. So for you in your 40s, it’s going to be cleanse-tone-serum-moisturise. And if it’s daytime, add SPF cream at the end of your skin care routine.
Choose a serum based on the issues you see on your face. You will be the best judge. Wash your face properly and stand in proper light (or sunlight) and look at your face. Do you see wrinkles? Fine lines? Spots? Uneven skin tone? Which is the most annoying issue for you? Buy a serum that addresses that annoying issue. Most serums consist of peptides and retinoids, which rebuild collagen and improves skin texture, respectively. So you’re in good hands.
Night Time Repair Cream
This is a must. There are special “night repair” products in the market nowadays. These can be serums or moisturisers, a little bit on the expensive side though. But it’s completely worth it. If it’s a good product, you can see changes within a week or so.
As you might know, skin repairs itself at night when you are asleep. So these night repair creams act as boosters to your own system to repair your skin issues, and bring you glowing skin in the mornings.
Less Makeup, the Better
Don’t use foundation and concealer products to hide your laugh lines or wrinkles or any other skin issues related to ageing. It’s ageing. You can’t help it, and nor can those products can. Instead, focus on hydrating your skin before applying makeup. And use less makeup of course. Else your makeup will end up looking cake-y.
Don’t Forget Your Basic Skin Care Routine
Read my posts on the best skin care routine for your 20s and 30s, and you will understand how to formulate your basic skin care routine.
And do remember to follow the tips I’ve included in these posts about eating right, going to bed makeup-free, drinking loads of water, and more. Your skin needs all the support it can get to keep looking radiant for you.
It’s important you pay attention to your skin if you want your skin to look healthy and supple, so use my advice for the Best Skin Care Routine For Your 40s. But it’s equally important to remember not to worry about it too much. When the products you have chosen don’t work as expected, take advice from a good dermatologist. There’s help when you look for it.
