Hot weather’s coming up and it’s a sure shot body odor issues will hit you as well as the people around you. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not just your sweat making you smelly, it’s actually what you are eating. So next time you pop something into your mouth, think how it will affect your personal hygiene as well as your overall health. And if you smoke cigarettes, it’s just an add-on to your problems since tobacco releases a ghastly stench through the pores in your skin as a by-product.
What to Eat: You are free to eat anything you want as long as you are maintaining a healthy diet. And a healthy diet means including lots of whole grains, leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, soy and related products, and so on. Such a healthy diet will not only help you in maintaining a good personal hygiene, it will also keep you in the fit zone to fight off most diseases.
What Not to Eat: Foods listed below are for the benefit of tackling body odor issues only. It is recommended to minimize the intake of these foods for your overall health, or you can completely avoid these foods for a short time to beat your body odor issues.
What – Any type of processed foods like refined sugar, white flour, hydrogenated oils, cheese, etc. Reason – Sugar in these items encourages the growth of bacteria and certain types of fungus on your skin, which release odors when active.
What – Any type of red meat and processed meats. Reason – These meats release many types of toxins into the blood stream, thereby accelerating the discharge of certain bacteria and odors, which make body odors even worse.
What – Alcohol, caffeine, cumin, garlic, onions, and other such naturally smelly foods. Reason – Although different in nature, all these items play active role in releasing bacteria and odors making your body odor issues into full-fledged nightmares. Try to remember, the morning when your hangover hit you, I bet your body odors were at your worst. Similarly, eating garlic not only makes you reach for a breath mint, after some time, you tend to reach out for your body deodorant as well.
A Few Home Remedies to Tackle Body Odor: When you are not sure why your body odors are not going away even after maintaining proper personal hygiene and eating right, try these simple home remedies. Using these, you should be odorless all day.
Alcohol – don’t drink it, just wipe your armpits with alcohol, white vinegar or apple cider vinegar.
Baking Soda – it can be used anywhere in the household to kill odors and you can use it safely on your body too. Dab your freshly wiped armpits with the dry powder.
Wheat Grass – Take a few slivers of wheat grass daily on an empty stomach with a glass of water. You can try different amounts until you figure out the right one.
Lemon – Squirt a cupful of lemon or lime juice into your bath water and use it after your shower.
These are some simple remedies and if these also fail, I would suggest visiting a dermatologist for prescription drugs to deal with this issue.
